conclusions serum ngal levels of arf and crf patients were significantly higher than healthy individuals. in addition, ngal values of patients with crf were significantly higher than those of arf. serum ngal values can be used to detect renal injury and differentiate arf and crf. results median ngal levels in patients was 304.50 (29), and 60 (0) in control, which was statistically significant between the two groups (z = -6.477, p < 0.001). the median ngal values were 261.50 ± 291 in arf group and 428.50 ± 294 in crf group. there was a significant difference in ngal level between arf and crf groups (z = -2.52, p = 0.012). median bun values were 153.46 ± 82.47 in arf group and 169.40 ± 93.94 in crf group. there was no significant difference in bun value between arf and crf groups (p > 0.05). median creatinine values were 2.84 ± 2.95 in arf group and 4.78 ± 4.32 in crf group. in serum creatinine values, a significant difference was found between arf and crf groups (p < 0.05). objectives in the present study, we aimed to investigate whether blood ngal level plays a role in the differential diagnosis of acute and chronic renal failure. patients and methods this was a prospective case-control study. fifty patients presented to emergency department with acute renal failure (arf), 30 with chronic renal failure (crf) and 20 healthy individuals as control group were included in this study. blood ph, hco3-, bun, creatinine and potassium values were evaluated in all patients. blood ngal values were evaluated in all groups. bun, serum creatinine and ngal values were statistically compared between patients and controls. background neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (ngal) protein is easily detected in the blood and urine soon after acute renal injury. ngal gains features of an early, sensitive and noninvasive biomarker for acute renal injury. recent evidences suggest that its expression is also increased in crf reflecting the severity of disease.

Importance of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin in Differential Diagnosis of Acute and Chronic Renal Failure
OBJECTIVES In the present study, we aimed to investiga...
متن کاملPlasma Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin and Predicting Clinically Relevant Worsening Renal Function in Acute Heart Failure
The aim of this study was to evaluate the ability of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) to predict clinically relevant worsening renal function (WRF) in acute heart failure (AHF). Plasma NGAL and serum creatinine changes during the first 4 days of admission were investigated in 1447 patients hospitalized for AHF and enrolled in the Placebo-Controlled Randomized Study of the Selec...
متن کاملPredictive Values of Urinary Interleukin 18 and Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin for Delayed Graft Function Diagnosis in Kidney Transplantation
Background: Delayed graft function is a main complication after deceased donor kidney transplantation that adversely affects graft outcome. Difficulties in prediction and early detection of delayed graft function have hindered the ability to perform proper therapeutic interventions. We investigated whether measuring urinary interleukin 18 and neutrophi...
متن کاملComparative Assessment of Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) and Cystatin C as Early Biomarkers for Early Detection of Renal Failure in Patients with Hypertension
Background: Hypertension is one the most common causes of chronic kidney disease (CKD). One of the major concerns in hypertensive patients is early detection of renal disorders. In the past, serum creatinine (Scr) concentration was used as a marker of kidney function, but it proffers a late reflection of reduced glomerular filtration rate. Cystatin C and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocal...
متن کاملPlasma neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin for the prediction of acute kidney injury in acute heart failure
INTRODUCTION The accurate prediction of acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with acute heart failure (AHF) is an unmet clinical need. Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) is a novel sensitive and specific marker of AKI. METHODS A total of 207 consecutive patients presenting to the emergency department with AHF were enrolled. Plasma NGAL was measured in a blinded fashion at pres...
متن کاملAssociations Between Neutrophil Gelatinase Associated Lipocalin, Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio, Atrial Fibrillation and Renal Dysfunction in Chronic Heart Failure
BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation (AF) and renal dysfunction are two common comorbidities in patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). This study evaluated the effect of permanent AF on renal function in HFrEF and investigated the associations of atrial fibrillation, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL), and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with a...
